Portland as a Society
Every region in the world has some identity that people attribute to it. This may be the fast paced nature of Northeast cities, or the Latin culture of Miami, every city has an identity. In the end, this identity is formed by the people who live in that city, the things they care about, how they are taken care of by businesses and government, and how connected they are to each other. Portland is no different. It has a citizenry that is cares about environment, diverse, and educated.
Social structure is more than just the identity of a city. It is also how the parts of the city interact with each other. This may be a spatial relationship, or a cultural relationship, or relationship between industries. In many cases the social structure is built up around public sector infrastructure, hospitals, parks, schools and transportation nodes.
